States that are landlocked are nautically disadvantaged in global trade compared to coastal states. Countries located in the mid-latitudes will have greater agricultural potential than those in the high latitudes, and lowland areas encourage industrial development more so than highland areas. It is widely believed that Western Europes financial success is a fundamental result of the continents superior geography. However, despite its influence, there remain cases in which a country with good geography could still experience economic distress. Mexico is an example of such a case. The Geography of Mexico The country is also rich in natural resources. Gold mines are scattered throughout its southern regions, and silver, copper, iron, lead, and zinc ores can be found virtually anywhere within its interior. There is an abundance of petroleum along Mexicos Atlantic coast, and gas and coal fields are dispersed throughout the region near the Texas border. In 2010, Mexico was the third largest oil exporter to the United States (7.5%), behind only Canada and Saudi Arabia. With approximately half of the country located south of the Tropic of Cancer, Mexico has the ability to grow tropical fruits and vegetables nearly year-round. Much of its soil is fertile and the consistent tropical rainfall help provide natural irrigation. The countrys rainforest is also home to some of the worlds most diverse species of fauna and flora. This biodiversity has great potential for biomedical research and supply. Mexicos geography also provides great tourism possibilities. The crystal blue waters of the Gulf illuminate its white sand beaches, while ancient Aztec and Mayan ruins present visitors with an enriching historical experience. The volcanic mountains and forested jungle terrain provide an avenue for hikers and adventure seekers. Enclosed resorts in Tijuana and Cancun are perfect places for couples, honeymooners, and families on vacation. Of course, Mexico City, with its beautiful Spanish and Mestizo architecture and cultural life, attracts visitors of all demographics. Mexico's Economic Struggles In the last three decades, Mexicos economic geography has progressed somewhat. Thanks to NAFTA, northern states such as Nuevo Leon, Chihuahua, and Baja California have seen great industrial development and income expansion. However, the country southern states of Chiapas, Oaxaca, and Guerrero continue to struggle. Mexicos infrastructure, already inadequate, serves the south far less well than the north. The south also lags in education, public utilities, and transportation. This contrast is leading to a great deal of social and political strife. In 1994, a radical group of Amerindian peasants formed a group called the Zapatista National Liberation Army (ZNLA), who consistently rages guerrilla warfare on the country. Another major obstacle to Mexicos economic advancement is the drug cartels. Over the past decade, drug cartels from Colombia established new bases in northern Mexico. These drug barons have been murdering law enforcement officers, civilians, and competitors by the thousands. They are well armed, organized, and they have begun to undermine the government. In 2010, the Zetas drug cartel siphoned more than $1 billion dollars worth of oil from Mexicos pipelines, and their influence continues to grow. The future of the country depends on the governments effort to close the gap between rich and poor in order to reduce regional inequalities. Mexico needs to invest in infrastructure development and education, all while pursuing strong trade policies with neighboring states. They need to find a way to abolish the drug cartels and create an environment that is secure for citizens and tourists. Most importantly, Mexico needsà to expand industrial avenues that can benefit from their good geography, such as the development of a dry canal across the narrowest part of the country to compete with the Panama Canal. With some proper reforms, Mexico has the great potential for economic prosperity. Sources: De Blij, Harm. The World Today: Concepts and Regions in Geography 5th Edition. Answer: Reasons of Surging Housing Price in the Australia Housing prices are influenced by various factors in an economy. According to ASAD concept of economics, whenever demand is higher than the supply then pricing of products and service gets increased (Australian Government, 2016). There are various reasons of increasing housing prices in the Australia, the detail of which is as below: Interest Rate Low interest rate focuses on the bottom repayment in advance that enables the debtor to borrow more through the specified refund to the segment of returns. Due to this reason demand and price of housing are increasing in the Australia. Along with this, the interest rate of Australia has decreased since 2010 due to recession in the Australia (Reserve Bank of Australia, 2010). After that time, the interest rate increased reasonably in 2011-12 and consequential interest rate by the end of 2015 has become 2.25%. It signifies that lower interest rate increases the housing prices in the Australia. Investment Demand People are investing a lot of money in the housing sector since 2012. Consequently, investor of the real estate drives the housing prices up in the Australia. In addition to this, there are various factor that have lead to increase in housing price in Australia such as tax benefit, increasing rental income, Extensive development, and social demographics in economy of Australia and capital market. These all factors increased the investment in housing sector. Financial Deregulation and Innovation The financial system of Australia has removed restrictions in industry in year 2010. Furthermore, the loan actions are managed directly by the reserve bank of Australia, which are related to the financial institution (Moran et al, 2014). There are various lending sources in the Australia such as overseas banks, credit insurers, investors, advance dealer, and industry finances, which infiltrated into the market in terms to offer the housing loan and finance. Because of availability of alternative new sources and new loan criteria in Australia, secondary housing finance market mobilized the house purchases. Consideration has been involved in lending criteria of the entire value and income of household to create the lending limits. It proved to be compatible to increase the housing demand and prices in the Australia. Government Assessment There are various expenditures, which affects the housing prices in the Australia such as Stamp obligation in selling and moving of property, builders imposed, income tax and GST on building. The government charged the taxes on the usage and growth of development property. Due to these reasons, housing prices started increasing in Australia. Economic Growth: There is a positive relationship between the requirement of housing and revenue of the families in the Australia. When housing demand increases then income also increases due to income elasticity of demand (Dollman et al, 2015). Along with this, it is also seen that increasing demand of housing sector ultimately leads to hike or surging housing prices in the Australia. Wealth Effect Total wealth of people in Australia is double as compared to the net assets housing. It is called as wealth effect, which leads to increase in utilization of money or investment (Nahm, 2016). Along with this, it can be said that housing prices are increasing because of increasing demand of housing in the Australia. Macroeconomic Policies that can be Undertaken by Australian Government to Ensure the Affordable Housing Prices Macroeconomic Policy of the Government: When the government experiences high inflation and unemployment, it interjects some policies and actions to regulate the market activities to ensure the affordable and rational prices. The macroeconomic policies of the Australian government affect the demand and supply of the house in the country. In Australia, people deeply wish to be owner of a house in a metropolitan city but due to the high price of the houses, they cannot afford house in developed cities. Australian government has developed a National Affordable Housing Agreement that ensures the affordability, safety, and sustainability of houses in country (Government of Western Australia, 2010). This agreement (NAHA) was introduced to resolve the issues of affordability of housing prices in Australia. This agreement was developed mostly by considering the welfare of lower and middle class people. The agreement has a worth of $6.2 billion that backs the middle and lower class people in purchasing a house for dwelling. The NAHA with support of the National Partnership Agreement provides help to homeless people, and people dwelling in remote areas in Australia (Australian Government, 2016). Australian government has gone for improving foreign investment framework to attract the more investors in real estate. This will increase the supply of houses in the country that will bring down the house price to the affordability of the middle and lower class people also. Besides this, the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) is propounded by Council of Australia Government to support the alteration in the broad areas throughout the Australia. IGA principles are applicable as economic interest as well as social policy and outcomes. Apart from this, the local government, state government and commonwealth government have the responsibility of regulating the pricing of the houses in the Australia to maintain the sound economic condition in the country. Local Government: The Local government plans, develops, and manages the regulatory system to control housing market fluctuation. Local government enjoys the power of funding, policy making, and designing of regulations to generate affordable houses for people in Australia. Local government plans and develops the national standards for the marketers, as they have to stay certified by the government. Australia has faced housing issues. Lots of people are still homeless in the Australia due to high housing price that debars them from purchase of a house. People are not able to purchase their personal house in the Australia due to the pricing bubble in the housing market. The local government takes actions against these issues for the betterment of the community in the Australia (Gurran et al, 2015). The government backs to public in purchasing houses by providing them the offers of partnership. The local government frames policies related to regulations for building and approvals, planning for urban deve lopment, development assessment processes, and infrastructure charges (Treasury Government of Australia, 2016). Along with this, the local government plans and implements different policies to restrict the housing price to ensure the affordable housing in the country. Moreover, the local government develops strategic alliances, builds up capacity of the community, and exercises its regulatory power to stabilize the housing price at affordability of the people. State Government: The government can work with both the state and local government for the strategies that are required for the growth of nation. All can ensure the plan that can be beneficial opportunities for the youth. A council of ministers can be established to represents the matters of the infrastructure and for solving the problems related to housing policies. It can monitor and report the planning schemes that are needed for the development of the infrastructure (Ahuri, 2016). It can maintain the targets for the home ownership that can be easily affordable by all the levels of the people. It can review all the targets that are maintained and needed to improve reliability of all the housing policies by the government. The expenditure on the development of infrastructure should be urban based as all the younger generation tends to settle in the urban regions. The various loan schemes should be maintained by the government to encourage more reliability of their plans and should be equally gained by all the people (Habitat, 2016). The skilled people should be employed in the housing sector, as they have better understanding of the need of the younger generation. The goods and services tax must be removed from the infrastructure sector, as putting more burdens on the youth increases the prices of the property in a significant way. The previous polices that were established in the nineties should be reconsidered by the government for the development of the urban areas, as they were very cost effective. Commonwealth Government: The commonwealth government frames various macroeconomic policies related to the taxation, financial sector, infrastructure development, and policy modification, fiscal and monetary policy, colonization, and national housing agreement. The commonwealth government offers the loan at the cheaper rate to raise capacity of people for affordable houses in a well-developed city. Commonwealth government is the highest legislative group in the country, which consists of the head of government, state leader, chief of a particular region, and president of the country. Commonwealth government focuses on reforms in the infrastructure of the telecommunication, aviation service, postal service, transportation service, roads, and public housing (Parliament of Australia, 2010). Commonwealth government provides free on partnership houses to the people having their likelihood below the poverty line decided by the government. The commonwealth government can decreases the taxes, levies and charges to bring down the housing price in the Australia. IGA on the federal financial relationship helps the government to increase the supply of the money to increase the housing affordability of the people. Commonwealth State Housing Agreement and Commonwealth Rent Housing are the two major schemes of the commonwealth government for providing the funding to public for housing affordability. Your essay lets you reveal aspects of your life and character that just dont come across elsewhere. In some cases, though, the essay questions are so strange that they might seem more like puzzles than prompts. Take the following examples. 1. Tufts University Kermit the Frog famously lamented, Its not easy being green. Do you agree? Tufts University frequently supplies eclectic essay prompts, and this is obviously one of them. After all, it quotes someone whos made of felt. Nevertheless, its philosophical. It challenges students to define the existential condition green in their own way. No doubt many respondents will highlight a quirk that makes them distinct. It could be something physical like being tall, or it could be a personality feature like curiosity. Either way, applicants must decide whether that quality has caused them difficulties. Check out our database of successful Tufts profilesfor more inspiration! 2. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill What do you hope to find over the rainbow? This UNC prompt is also framed through the lens of popular culture. It references a song from the classic movie The Wizard of Oz. Its asking students what they want their futures to hold once they cross a certain threshold. Again, applicants must define their own terms. What is that threshold, the rainbow, that they must pass? Is it school? Is it the search for a true calling? These questions would probably keep the Scarecrow up at night. Here are UNC Chapel Hill essay examples! 3. University of Chicago What is square one, and can you actually go back to it? When it comes to asking offbeat essay questions, the University of Chicago is Americas reigning champ. This one takes a familiar idiom ââ¬â¢ back to square one ââ¬â¢ and squeezes out its metaphysical implications. When people find themselves on the wrong path in life, to what extent can they go back and fix the problem? Can you really make amends with other people? Is there a point of no return in terms of decision-making? Take a look at some UChicago success stories. 4. Wake Forest University Give us your top ten list. This request must inspire many different kinds of responses. Many students probably submit earnest lists of heroes, career objectives or the struggles theyve overcome. No doubt others offer humor, perhaps naming their most embarrassing moments or favorite dance moves. Some brave soul might provide ten reasons he or she hates top ten lists. Would you be sincere or irreverent with your list? See what others did in their Wake Forest application! 5. University of Richmond Tell us about spiders. Heres another question thats wide open to interpretation. It also gives applicants the chance to display their unique sensibilities. You could opt for biological descriptions, an examination of how spiders have been perceived throughout history, an autobiographical story about childhood arachnophobia, an amusing look at the world from a spiders point of view or something else entirely. You have to wonder, though, how many admissions officers get the willies reading these essays. Heres a list of Richmond profiles to help you. 6. Brandeis University If you could choose to be raised by robots, dinosaurs or aliens, who would you pick? Why? Given the absurdity of its three choices, this question seems designed to test creativity and reasoning skills. How do you construct a logical argument from an illogical premise? How do you advocate for an idea thats appalling? On the other hand, maybe some people like the notion of robots changing diapers or aliens singing lullabies. Check out Brandeis University profiles! Unusual college application essays certainly arent for everyone. Many students prefer standard queries about inspiring books or extracurricular activities. However, if you have an urge to show off your imagination and unique writing style, you might start hunting for an essay question as bizarre as those above. Which essay prompt has you scratching your heads? Let us know what other strange ones youve encountered this application season! He saw art as a laboratory where experiments were carried out on trial and error basis. He saw expressionism as a major rupture within the history of modern art, describing what was to go on the canvas as an event rather than a picture, and captured a moment or rather stayed on as a record of the moment. Even though he claimed that the New York school Paris had taken over art, his writing was still influenced by the existentialist philosophy. Clement Greenbergââ¬â¢s views closely shaped the works of many artists in his time. He focused his attention to the formal properties of art such as color, line and space having a rigorous approach to criticism. He introduced many ideas into the discussion in the 20th century, explaining notions such as ââ¬Ëkitschââ¬â¢ and pictorial ââ¬Ëflatnessââ¬â¢ and inventing concepts such as the optical space. He believed in the necessity in abstract art as a means in resisting the intrusion of politics and commerce into art. Even though he championed what had most often been regarded as avant-garde art, he saw modern art as an unfolding tradition and thereby ended up attacking many others against those values that he held dear, including Rosenberg. Greenberg, believed that adopting to modern art, is like adapting to any other change, and those who do not change, they end up being misplaced in the society because people have to move with the current trends in the world as noted by Kocur and Simon. Harriet Jacobs was a slave in America during the slavery period. She wrote her narrative depicting the difficulty the slaves had. She focused her narrative on the impact of slavery on the black community domestic set-up. Her main focus was sexual exploitation in the plantation since she was sexually exploited, and focused on how slavery tore up the family set-up. There was a lot of brutality in how the whites handled the blacks who were their slaves. There was arbitrary rule which was engulfed with violence that ensured the slaves were denied any form of opportunity for personal development. In the book American Pageant, she focuses on the economic impact of slave trade and states either directly or by implication that the slavery system was ââ¬Ëdemocraticââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëfairââ¬â¢ as compared to other slaves systems around the world. He delicately applies euphemisms to mask the plight and nature of the black community in the society. The two sources have only one similarity: they both feature the history of American Slavery. However, the authors of the books also have clear cut racial disparities that informed their perspectives of expression. The narrative is written by a black woman who seeks to give a voice to the plight of the women slaves in her society, expressing the agony of uncertainty of the future. However, it has been contended that the incidents narratives were written under a pseudonym and, thus, could have been fiction. There has been evidence in forms of letters from respectable people of Jacobsââ¬â¢ times that validates the authenticity of the book. It then acts like as a platform of self expression and self realization and even as a means of resisting the slavery rule and white supremacy, just like other black narratives. It also serves a personal account of what transpired and the effects the slavery had on the writer. Narratives were written to invoke sympathy to the white community so that they would free their slaves (Kennedy et al, 2001). The book, on the other hand, covers a wider scope from the political arrangements of the time. Further, legislation that legalized slave trade and the positive effects the slaves had in the economy is also covered. Written by white authors who lacked firsthand experience of what really happened, the book fails to show an appreciation of what it means to be a slave and the effects it had on the individuals concerned. It has no platform of self expression, liberalization or supremacy but acts to narrow the thinking perspectives of young Americans, which are a form of undermining their freedom of true and accurate information. The book enhances white supremacy since it euphemizes the plight of the slaves and magnitude of their suffering. The book was written in pursuit of advancing academic in the United States and also for fiduciary b enefits arising from its sale. In her narrative, Harriet Jacobs shows the productive nature of the black people on the plantations of the white men. The labor they provided was unpaid meaning that the profits obtained from the trading of the agricultural products were quite significant. Further, the slaves lived in a squalid environment because their source of income showed that they could not afford a decent abode. Mrs. Pettway is a 9th grade history teacher at Jeff Davis High School. She runs a very structured class with a well plan classroom management plan. Mrs. Pettway follows a strict schedule during the 50 minutes of class time that students follow such as 15 minute bell ringer at the beginning of class, 15 minutes of lecture and class participation, and 15 minutes of section review assessment questions. She utilizes the final five minutes for students to put away books and prepare for their next class. Her classroom management plan does not allow students much time to talk or interact with each other. Her transition from the bell ringer to the class lecture was very smooth and the students seem to be in routine with moving from one assignment to the next. I believe her daily schedule is a great method of classroom management because it helps her to keep the students on track. Interaction with Students Mrs. Pettway fully interacts with her students throughout the class period. She walks also the classroom and monitors the progress of each student and makes sure they are staying on task with their assignment. She gets students involved in the discussion questions by randomly calling on them to answer questions. When her students have questions or do not understand information about their assignment, she provides them feedback to get them back on the right track. Classroom Setup The classroom is set up with 27 students. The studentsââ¬â¢ desks are all facing the front of the classroom. Her class consisted of a whiteboard, smart board, and projector. Mrs. Pettway desk is also stationed at the front of the classroom where she is able to see each student. The students are seated in the classroom in alphabetical order facing the white board where the objectives and assignments and daily schedule were placed visible to the students. She also has two tables in the classroom that are seated away from the rest of the class for students with behavior issues. Classroom rules are placed on the wall near the entrance of the classroom visible for all students to see as they enter the classroom. Examples and Incidents of Mutual Respect Mrs. Pettway seems to be the person controlling the class at all times. She has built a personal rapport with students and they have a lot of respect for her. Mrs. Pettway greets the students by theirs name as they enter the class. When students want to get her attention they raise their hand, she acknowledges them and provides them with an appropriate answer. For example, when Mrs. Pettway was during her lecture, all students were attentive and listening. Her class exhibited no behaviors or distractions during class time. She also gives her students mutual respect by acknowledging and praising them for engaging in class discussion and completing the classroom before the end of class. Preventive Procedures and Activities At the beginning of class, Mrs. Pettway had already had her books turned to the chapter that she would be lecturing from. She also had the studentsââ¬â¢ assignments for the day listed on the board so they would know what the tasks were for the day. Her lesson was prepared before class and she was confident in the information she was teaching. The class activities were in line with the lecture and class discussion that was previously discussed and they were engaging and seemed to be interesting for the students. Discipline model used in the classroom and school The discipline model that was used in the classroom was to separate the students that had disruptive behavior from the rest of the class. She stated that she uses this model because it helps to cut down on the distractions and helps the rest of the class stay on track. Another discipline that she uses is parent teacher conferences for students with disruptive behavior. The schools discipline policy of disruptive behavior usually result in ISS in school suspension, detention, or suspension away from school. How does the teacher deal with a parent or guardian of a disruptive child? Mrs. Pettway stated that she holds parent or guardian conferences for her students often. If a student is being disruptive in the classroom, she makes contact with the parents or guardian for a conference to discuss the behavior. Mrs. Pettway stated that she deals with a parent or guardian of a disruptive child in a calm and professional manor. She discusses the studentââ¬â¢s behaviors with the parents and possible solutions. She also stated that she works closely with the parents to set achieve goals for their child, monitor their behavior and holds follow up conferences with the parents to determine if the studentââ¬â¢s behavior is improving. In conclusion, I learned how to effectively run a classroom management plan. The classroom observation was very informative and a great learning experience. I discovered different ways to deal with classroom behavior without affecting the learning of the other students in the classroom. I really enjoyed this classroom observation experience. Johnson issued Executive Order #11246 at Howard University that required federal contractors to undertake affirmative action to increase the number of minorities that they employ. He wanted to ensure that minorities were recruited to have real opportunities to be hired and then eventually get a promotion. In 1969, the Department of Labor exposed widespread racial discrimination of the Construction Department so President Richard M. Nixon decided to encorporate a system of "goals and timetables" to evaluate federal construction companies according to affirmative action. This idea of "goals and timetables" provided guidelines for companies to follow and comply with affirmative action regulations. During the presidency of Gerald R. Ford, he extended affirmative action to people with disabilities (3) and Vietnam veterns (4) but there were no goals or timetables for these two groups. This type of affirmative action required recruitment efforts, accessability, accommodation and reviews of physical and mental job qualifications. President Jimmy Carter consolidated all federal agencies that were required by law to follow the affirmative action play into the Department of Labor. Before Carter did this, each agency handled affirmative action in its own individual way, some were not as consistant as other agencies were. He created the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Program (OFCCP) in 1978 to ensure compliance with the affirmative action policies. Affirmative action began to go downhill when Ronald Reagan and later George Bush came into office. Affirmative action lost some gains it had made and was mor or less ignored by the Republicans in the White House and in Congress. Affirmative action was silently being "killed" by our federal administrators. But among this destruction there was one positive aspect, the passage of Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (5). Finally to the Presidency of Bill Clinton. The Republicans are attempting to scare people into changing their party lines by misusing affirmative action. They are saying that affirmative action is nothing more than a quota (6) or reverse discrimination (7). How can living alone or living with other people affect your mood or behavior? Is living alone something that Is appropriate for you? Why or why not? The advantages of living alone are that you feel more comfortable being dependent on yourself, no sense of control, and free. You can do whatever and however you want, keep things in the order you want, and no one will judge you.For example, ear anything you want, watch your favorite channel and listen to music as loud as you wish, and no one will complain about it. The disadvantage of living alone is that it gets depressing from time to time. Having a partner or a roommate is really helpful in many situations. One of the examples, if you fall ill there will be someone who will take care of you. Another example is that you will have company when watching TV, cooking food, or dinning together. But, there are different types of people, some refer living alone and it doesn't get bor ing or depressing for them, others like to live with someone and feel comfortable with it. People who live alone tend to be more angry, lonely and depressed. Therefore, their mood is not always good. People who live with other people most of the times would be happy. This is because there is always someone they can chat with, discuss, and be around with. Living alone for me is appropriate, for now. Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, and Plato are among some of the many philosophers that have covered this topic in detail. John Locke expressed a generous view of human behavior. He states, ââ¬Å"All mankindâ⬠¦ Being all equal and independent no one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty, or possessions. ââ¬Å"1 . This quote refers to human nature, which is heavily discussed by John Locke. Locke is not the only philosopher who shared his views on manââ¬â¢s behavior in a state of nature, but others such as Thomas Hobbes and Plato. This show is a perfect example of man in a state of nature since there are no more governments or formal civil authorities. In the series people fight to survive against the elements, zombies, and other people. This leads to survivors joining together to form groups making their chances of survival more likely. Rick Grimes is the main character in the series, he is the one who leads his group. Rick and his group face enemies along the way whether it be disease, ââ¬Å"walkersâ⬠(zombies), or other groups. The television series The Walking Dead mostly tends to favor Thomas Hobbes views. The show portrays Hobbesââ¬â¢ three reasons for violence quite often in the show. He attacks the prison with weapons and even using a tank, so that he can gain control over Rickââ¬â¢s territory, food, and even some of his people. On to the second reason for violence being safety. The outcomes of immigrantsââ¬â¢ labour market is important to understand the overall situation of immigrantsââ¬â¢ labour market in the western provinces. The outcomes of immigrantsââ¬â¢ labour market generally refer as the employment rate, unemployment rate, participation rate, income and permanent or temporary status. The client base has been the vacation cabin residents surrounding its Sandusky, Ohio location. The company grew successful selling its custom furniture and eventually as sales increased, the sales force began selling to retailers. The furniture demanded by retailers is standardized, price sensitive, and requires faster delivery times. Sales of both lines of furniture are doing well, but the manufacturing facility is facing some problems. The standard line is competing for processing time on the same equipment as the custom line, which is resulting in unfinished inventory laying around the facility. The plant has run out of excess capacity and must rent expensive warehouse space. Chad must determine how to best meet the competitive priorities of both of his furniture lines in order to manage his operations most successfully. Gaps in Chadââ¬â¢s Operations Strategy The initiative taken by the sales force to sell to retailers directly impacted the operations at the production facility. We will write a custom essay sample on Chads Creative Concepts or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Sales and marketing of the standard furniture line put constraints on the staff and equipment at the plant, as they tried to meet the demands of both of the furniture lines. Sales and marketing also impact the delivery times imposed on the processing team. A new production schedule was not implemented with the addition of the standard line. Instead, the custom line receives priority while the standard line is often left waiting at various points in the process. The move to produce standard furniture has left profits lacking. While the company and sales of the standard line continue to grow, the costs of producing the standard line are also increasing. The bulk of volume and sales are still in custom furniture. Money is being held in inventory as parts wait to be processed. Additionally, money is being spent for warehouse space to hold inventory. Future Alternatives As the company grew, it should have taken some steps to prevent the current problems. Analyzing these alternatives may help Chad restructure his operations strategy. The manufacturing schedule should be analyzed and redesigned, perhaps using Gantt charts, so that both lines of furniture can be processed most efficiently. The capacity utilization of work stations and equipment should be analyzed to find room for improvement. The costs and benefits of separating the furniture lines could be considered. Chad and his management team should implement just in time or lean inventory strategies, so that money is not tied up in work in progress or raw materials. Planning software could help Chad better forecast inventory needs and utilize capacity. If increased productivity in the current plant still cannot meet demand, Chad may need to consider investing in additional space, equipment, and labor. The most restrictive alternative would be to eliminate the standard line and focus only on high quality, custom furniture. References Krajewski, L. , Malhotra, M. , Ritzman, L. (2013). Chadââ¬â¢s Creative Concepts. Operations Management Process and Supply Chains (pp. 29-30). Upper Saddle River, NJ: Prentice Hall. Appendix Appendix A. 5-Step Critical Thinking Decision-Making Process Matrix Step 1: Identify the problem(s) and uncertainties. What exactly is the problemâ⬠¦ The addition of the standard line of furniture is affecting the operations at Chadââ¬â¢s Creative Concepts. The problem is this â⬠¦ The standard line costs are increasing as sales are increasing. The custom and standard lines are competing for processing time on the same machines resulting in unfinished inventory laying around the facility. The plant is pushed to capacity without any excess space left. Processing and delivery times are increasing. Rented warehouse space is very expensive. This is an important problem becauseâ⬠¦ Chadââ¬â¢s bottom line is being affected. Profits are not where they should be. Costs of the standard line are increasing. The plant has run out of extra space. The key question(s) that needs to be answered to solve this problem isâ⬠¦ How does Chadââ¬â¢s Creative Concepts meet the competitive priorities of both the custom and standard lines of furniture and achieve his operations strategy successfully? Does Chad keep the standard line of furniture? Step 2: Obtain information. The following information is needed to answer this questionâ⬠¦ The custom line makes up 60% of the volume and 75% of sales. Sales are rising for the standard line. Costs for the standard line are also increasing. Money is tied up in inventory. Warehouse space is expensive to rent. There is no room to expand in the current facility. Customers of the standard line are price sensitive and demand fast delivery times. The equipment used is general purpose and flexible. Some important assumptions I am using in my thinking areâ⬠¦ Buying a new space may be feasible, as well as adding additional equipment and staff. The market for vacation cabin furniture may be more saturated than the market for standard furniture sold at retailers. The points of view relevant to this problem belong toâ⬠¦ Chad Thomas, sales force, plant workers, and customers. Note: Remember to view the information you have obtained for potential bias. This is from the perspective of your own bias to the research and the bias of the authors who compiled the data and the research you gathered. In other words, do not discount the importance of otherââ¬â¢s data because of your own bias(is). Step 3: Make predictions about the future. If this problem gets solved, some important implications areâ⬠¦ If Chad can run both lines efficiently, costs and profits may both increase. If products are produced more efficiently then sales would need to go up, requiring more of the sales force. Improvements in processes could decrease lead times and improve delivery times. Better inventory management could eliminate the need for renting of the warehouse space. If this problem does not get solved, some important implications areâ⬠¦ Lead and delivery times will continue to increase. Production may not meet demand and customers might be lost. Profits may decline in the long term. The potential alternative solutions to solve the problem areâ⬠¦ Changes to improve the manufacturing schedule could be made. The same amount of priority could be given to both lines. The lines could be separated within the facility or additional space could be purchased. Staff and equipment could be increased to improve productivity. Just in time inventory practices can be implemented to reduce the use of warehouse space. The standard line could be eliminated. Changes to the layout and capacity utilization of work stations could be made. Note: if the problem is one-dimensional, there may be just one correct solution. Step 4: Make decisions by choosing among alternatives. What is the best solution and whyâ⬠¦ Chad should analyze and improve his scheduling, capacity planning, and inventory management to process both furniture lines better. Currently, the manufacturing schedule is running without any set organization which is hurting the standard line and producing excess inventory. The standard furniture line should be analyzed to create a forecasted schedule and just in time inventory management should be implemented to free up space. The capacity utilization of each workspace should be analyzed to make any possible adjustments to improve productivity and efficiency. The Christian tradition is haunted by a significant mark: Suffering. The question that arises from this suffering is if God is the omnipitous being that Christians believe Him to be, why would He let His people, whom he loves, suffer great pains and horrible deaths? According to premises derived from theologians and followers of the Bible, God is all loving. If that is true, then God would not want His people to suffer, but by just looking around us we see that suffering, in fact, is happening. If there is suffering going on that God does not want, then He would be able to stop that suffering since He also believed to be all powerful, yet suffering still goes on. Why? Hopefully by the end of this paper I will be able to answer that for myself. Suffering needs little support for its existence, for things such as the Holocaust. Elie Wiesels book, Night, documents the suffering of the Jewish people and his own personal suffering during the Holocaust. This massive amount of suffering is very hard to justify. How could God let this genocide take place? To answer that question we must further examine the original premises that we based the first conclusion upon: God is all-powerful and God is all-loving. To say that either one of these postulates are true would disrupt the foundation of the Christian beliefs. So we must dig deeper and look at the thought that God does not want suffering. Since suffering indeed happens, and God being the all-powerful individual and could stop suffering from happening if He wanted, then God must want suffering to happen for a reason. Thats strange, since we are saying God is also all-loving. God must need suffering to happen for a reason, but at the same time not necessarily want it to happen. What reason could God have for letting people whom He loves die horrible and painful deaths? Not only do these deaths effect the person, but also all the people who have been touched by that person because they suffer as well. To say that God may not have control over who suffers and who does not makes Him seem like hes not all-powerful, so God must play a part in this suffering. There are two reasons one can formulate that might give justification to this terrible suffering. One might be that we suffer as a test to prove our faith in God can survive no matter the circumstances. We see this test arise in the book of Job. Job is a man whom has done no wrong, has a great family, and a strong belief in God. According to the Bible, God puts the fate of Jobs in Satans hands. Satan reaps everything from Job except for his life. Job never questioned the existence of God or His almighty power, but Job did question Gods silence throughout his turmoil. When God finally answered, Job was rewarded for not loosing faith and spoken of Me what is right(Job 42:8). Job suffered a great deal and still did not loose his faith in God, and in the end God gave Job twice what he had before. Job passed Gods test of suffering. In Wiesels Night we see a different situation. Wiesel, like Job, had strong convictions about his faith. During the course of the book we see Wiesels faith weaken with the increasing suffering of the Holocaust. We see him go from praying and weeping to Never shall I forget those flames which consumed my faith forever(pg. 32). Wiesel obviously did not pass the inquest as Job did, that is, he lost some of his faith about Gods absolute justice(pg. 42). Could God have been testing Wiesel and his fellow Jews to see if their faith was as strong as they believed it to be? The difference between Job the Holocaust was that God never hurt Jobs body, however the Jews were slaughtered by the thousands. Maybe if Wiesel and his Jewish people all had kept their faith strong, then they might not have suffered such a great loss, but we will never know that for sure. It intends to cover the history, facts, controversies and ethics and values concerned with IVF treatment. In order for pregnancy to occur, an egg has to be released from the ovary (female) and unite with a sperm (male) during sexual intercourse. Normally this coming together, called fertilization, occurs within the fallopian tube, which joins the uterus (womb) to the ovary. However, in some circumstances natural conception cannot occur due to factors affecting the couples fertility. In Vitro Fertilisation allows for the union of the female egg and the male sperm cell, the union which usually occurs in the fallopian tubes instead is carried out in a laboratory after eggs and sperm have been collected, from the male and female. In Vitro Fertilisation is a fertility procedure, which first succeeded with the first test tube baby being born in 1978; the discovery was made by Dr Patrick Steptoe (an embryologist) and Dr Robert Edwards (a gynaecologist), in England. The first successful IVF treatment in the US took place in 1981, and there have been approximately 500,000 babies born world-wide with the aid of IVF treatment since then. The birth of Louise Brown, the first child born from IVF in 1978, was an important landmark in the management of infertility. When IVF was discovered it was initially designed to treat couples with damaged or absent fallopian tubes, but with its improved success rates IVF has been functional for patients with other causes of infertility, such as tumours, cysts, unexplained infertility and male infertility. Fairness is derived from the use of the terms ââ¬Å"justâ⬠and ââ¬Å"convenientâ⬠. In order to understand how the terms just and convenient amount to fairness in the proceedings it is necessary to examine how courts exercise the jurisdiction for granting injunctive relief as provided for under Section 37(1) of the Supreme Court Act 1981. ... As Charleton observed, a prohibitory injunction seeks to regulate one party by forcing that party to go back to behaviour that is consistent with the terms of a contract. Presumably, the party has either failed to act in certain way or has stopped acting in that way. By ordering a prohibitory injunction, the parties are expected to continue as if nothing had come between them when one party is forced to act in a way that he or she no longer wishes to act.7 It can be argued that the prohibitory injunction achieves equitable fairness because it remedies situations in which, a party to an agreement discontinues a contractual obligation to the detriment of the other party who has invested significant resources in reliance on the continued commitment on the part of the offending party not to do something in particular. However, according to Lord Cairns LC in Dolman v Allman, a prohibitory injunction will be granted ââ¬Å"as a matter of courseâ⬠and the court is not concerned about: ...a question of the balance of convenience or inconvenience, or the amount of damge or of injury.8 Prohibitory injunctions are therefore not concerned about what is fair and just between the parties, but rather, what is fair and just in terms of the contractual obligations of the parties. Mandatory Injunctions A mandatory injunction is an injunction compelling one part to ââ¬Å"undo the effects of breaching a negative undertakingâ⬠.9 Unlike a prohibitory injunction, courts are less inclined to grant a mandatory injunction.10 Courts will typically refuse to grant a mandatory injunction and will only grant a mandatory injunction if the court is satisfied that the party against whom the injunction is sought has Mikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00033304862595057987noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7248773991482844840.post-38382909293168422572019-11-20T07:22:00.001-08:002019-11-20T07:22:05.742-08:00Analysis of a Career Assessment Instrument EssayAnalysis of a Career Assessment Instrument - Essay Example Additional reason for choosing the MMPI relates to its enhanced accuracy after having undergone series of rephrasing and adjustments to overcome unnecessary biases. The original MMPI underwent revisions to become MMPI-2, MMPI-2RF and MMPI-A. Additionally, the choice for the instrument was due to the possibility of using it in legal and criminal settings to understanding psychological behaviors of criminals, and high-risk employment setup to measure mental fitness of candidates. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) is a clinical test and measurement tool mostly used for investigating mental health issues. The instrument has a number of benefits that are important to recognize. To begin with, the instrument provides counselors with ability to avoid discriminations. This aspect is a factor of many revisions that the MMPI passed through with the latest taking place in 2008. For instance, the initial MMPI had certain elements that focused more on Christianity while ignoring other religions. Another benefit of using the MMPI relates to the availability of about 10 scales of measurement that target different forms of mental illness. For instance, Scale1 is hypochondriasis scale, Scale 2 is depression, Scale 3-hysteria, Scale 4- psychopathic deviate scale and Scale 5 refers to masculinity-femininity scale. As argued by Brown and Lent (2013), this division of scales makes it easy for professional counselors using the tool to conduct quick assessme nt whose results are mostly specific and accurate. Even with the scales, the instrument allows users to avoid prejudging patient conditions, and advocates mention of scale number as in ââ¬Å"Scale 1â⬠instead of hypochondriasis. Another benefit of MMPI relates to its synchronization to technological advancements that has made it compatible with computer. It is possible to analyze the test outcomes using computer software. Gantt Chart Project Background Big Ideas Ltd plans to organize a one day training event in project management, with a specific focus on the MS Project use and the Critical Path Analysis (CPA) as a planning technique. Big Idea has no project management experience in managing events of such caliber which is why several companies with expertise in project management have been approached for providing an offer and a solution of how the event should be managed. The Project management Ltd (PML) offer is provided in the following sections. Project Concept and Strategy PMBOK and PRINCE2 are standard project methodologies used by many PM practitioners across the world. The both methodologies recommend that the projects begin with a project initiation phase in which a clear identification of customer, in this case the ownerââ¬â¢s requirements is made (PMI 2008, OGS 2005). In the case of Big Ideaââ¬â¢s project, PM practitioners as Field and Keller (2007:8-15) and Gardiner (2005) and in line with the PM standards, recommend preparing a Feasibility study or a Business Case in the terminology used in Prince2 PM approach (OGC 2005). The Business Case is a standard tool in project management which aims at investigating the financial, technical and managerial implications of the identified solution for accomplishing clientââ¬â¢s requirements. The Business Case enables the Management team to make a decision on the future development of the project , its objectives and scope (Field and Keller 2007: 25-40). The outputs of the project initiation phase are: (1) an Appointed Project Manager and a (2) Project Initiation Document (PID). In the process of the initial project development and the definition of the project objectives, the project practitioners as Turner (2009) and Kerzner (2009) recommend an identification of two set of factors for measuring the project success. The first set is made out of the success criteria, or the dependent variables by which the successful outcome of the project will be assessed: time, cost and quality. The second set are the success factors or the independent variables which will influence the successful achievement of the success c Mikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00033304862595057987noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7248773991482844840.post-11184471904741558692019-11-15T09:37:00.001-08:002019-11-15T09:37:03.983-08:00Paradoxes and contradictions presented in MacbethParadoxes and contradictions presented in Macbeth Paradoxes and contradictions (foul and fair, and so on) presented in Macbeth In William Shakespeares tragedy, Macbeth, readers are introduced to a harsh world of war, murder and treachery. At the beginning of the play three witches tell Macbeth that in his life time he will become Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor, as well as the King of Scotland. At first Macbeth is slow to believe the prediction of the witches, but after the first two prophecies come to fruition Macbeth becomes power hungry. Throughout the drama readers see both the rise and fall of Macbeth. Macbeths coming to power, through destructive and immoral means, creates a world of mistrust in most, if not all, characters. Shakespeare exploits this world of uncertainty and evil by adding many contradictions and paradoxes pertaining to trust and darkness. After the original murder of Duncan in Macbeths castle characters become very uneasy because there is obviously a traitor among them. Trust becomes a big issue among those in the castle, and others concerned for the well being of Scotland. Shakespeare emphasizes the trust versus mistrust issue by using specific literary devices. In the very first scene one of the witches utters the famous paradox, Fair is foul and foul is fair (1.1.) This paradox means that appearances can be very deceiving and there is fine line between good/evil and trust/mistrust. Before the murder of Duncan Macbeth has an Gillis 2 internal battle with his conscience, he reflects on the fact that Duncan is here in double trust. There are in fact two reasons for him to be protecting the King. He says, Hes here in double trust:/ First, as I am his kinsman and his subject,/ Strong both against the deed; then, as his host,/ Who should against his murderer shut the door,/ Not bear the knife myself. (1.7.). Ultimately Macbeths vaulting ambition(1.7) overrides his conscience and he does murder Duncan in his own castle. After the deed is committed Macbeth panics. He sees ghosts and believes that he will never sleep again. Lady Macbeth reminds him that he must keep remain calm and hide his guilt to maintain the trust of the other members of the Kings party. False face must hide what the false heart doth know(1.7.). Hiding the truth is Macbeth and Lady Macbeth main focus, along with attempting to murder anyone who stands in the way of the continuation of their royal linage. The question of who to trust is also seen when Macduff travels to England to seek the help of Malcolm, Malcolm tests him by making himself out to be a tyrant that has no interest in kingly duties and MacDuff reacts with despair, O my breast,/ Thy hope ends here!(4.3.) Malcolm then decides that MacDuff is indeed a loyal patron of Scotland and he may trust him. The uneasiness of the characters is amplified by Shakespeares emphasis on trust. It is extremely difficult to tell your friends from your enemies when a traitor is among them. Shakespeare also uses light and darkness to enhance the images of good and evil throughout the play. Macbeth often makes reference to darkness as if he is shamefully trying to run away and hide from his thoughts and actions. Even before the murder of Duncan he feels guilty. Macbeth says, Stars hide your fires,/ Let not light see my black Gillis 3 and deepest desires(1.4.) The darkness of the night is then embraced my both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth as they attempt to hide their evil deeds from the public eye. It seems as though the characters in Macbeth believe that the cover of darkness is needed when committing acts of violence and corruption. The witches are also associated with darkness. Banquo refers to them as instruments of darkness (1.3) and Macbeth calls them secret, black, and midnight hags(4.1) These references give readers a sense that the witches are mischievous and evil rather than simply the messengers of good news and predictors of great fortunes. The darkness also seems to blur the lines between reality and the supernatural. All of the appearances of the witches occur during the night deep in the wood, where it is hard to tell reality apart from a paranoid imagination. The light and your eyes may play tricks on you causing you to think or believe something fictional. This is why Shakespeare only had the witches materialize under these circumstances, to enhance the effect of the supernatural. Light is also used as a metaphor for life. In Macbeths final soliloquy he says, And all our yesterdays have lighted fools/ The way to dusty death. Out, out brief candle! (5.5.) Shakespeare compares life to the flame of a candle. The candle can be extinguished easily and in the grand scheme of things it only burns for a tremendously small amount of time. It does not matter how long the candle has been burning it can be blown out at any point. This is an especially interesting comparison because those murdered in Macbeth are of all ages, from King Duncan to Macduffs children. Throughout this tragedy Shakespeare uses many literary devices to make certain aspects of his writing stand out to the reader. The paradoxes, contradictions and metaphors Gillis 4 used in Macbeth constructed a sort of onstage world where it is impossible to trust anyone. At any point there could be someone hidden in the darkness ready to take your life. Scotland has been enveloped in a shadow of darkness, and the result is disorder, chaos and murder.
